Desperate Lives Finding Hope

Have times changed?

We so often read in the Bible of Christ reaching out to the poor, to the outcasts in the society. 2000 years later, the need has not gone away. The poor are still with us and always will be. But we can make a difference in some of their lives. We can show them the love of Christ. We seek to do that here in Waco.

In McLennan County, Texas, which includes Waco, 27.6% of families and individuals live in poverty as compared to 16.5% for the State of Texas and few attend any church.

We want to provide them with the basic physical needs of life. In doing so, we have the remarkable opportunity to share the good news that Jesus Christ can fill the deepest need of their souls.

For the past three years we have been able to share this message one on one with over 6,000 families who come to Loaves and Fishes. We welcome you to be a part of the work we are doing here.

Backstory on Manna ministry.

Beth and Richard

Richard and Beth founded Manna Ministries as the result of their concern for the very poor families in the area surrounding Waco Bible Chapel.

The decision to undertake this adventure was a natural expression of their career experiences of caring for others.

Richard worked for nearly 15 years for Prison Fellowship and other similar ministries until his retirement in 2005.

These days he works wherever he is needed at the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, as well as overseeing Manna Ministries.

Beth retired from nursing in 1994 after a long career.

She now is on the board of Manna Ministries as Secretary/Treasurer and continues to work at Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry two days each week.

Richard and Beth have enjoyed 56 years of marriage and have 3 children living, as well as 7 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Both are in good health and active in the Waco Bible Chapel church.
